Ummah must stand united: speakers

LAHORE - The two-day national Seerat Conference titled Aman-e-Aalam Aur Uswa-e-Hasna Asri Tahayydat-o-Masail organised by the Department of Islamic Studies, was concluded here at Punjab University, New Campus on Wednesday. Senior scholars, directors and literary personalities from across the country presented their key papers during the conference. Dr Dost Muhammad, Dr Ehsan-ul-Haq, Dr Sanaullah Bhutto, Dr Ashraf Shaheen, Dr Baqar Khan Khakwani, Dr Noor-ud-Din Jami, Dr Abdul Quddus, Dr Abdul Rauf Zafar, Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Salik, Dr Ghulam Ali Khan, Dr M Hammad Lakhvi, Dr Saad Siddiqui, Dr Ishtiaq Gondal, Prof Azmat, Prof Mian Akram, senior columnist Haroon-ur-Rashid, Haroon Kokan from Turkey and Dr Akhtar from Jamia Millia, Dehli presented their papers on the occasion. The speakers stressed that Islam was the religion of peace and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also preached peace and harmony. By following the teachings of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), peace could be established in the world. They stressed on the Muslim Ummah to stand united for justice and peace. They said the Muslims of the world should stop grouping themselves and should follow the teachings of Islam and peace would be there. For this purpose they should utilise the channels of education, media, social system, solidarity and moral characteristics. The speakers said the West and anti-Islam forces had been violating the boundaries of freedom, sovereignty of other countries and continuous making efforts to achieve their targets by alleging weak countries as a cause of disturbance. The participants also condemned the biased role of United Nations. Recommendations were also prepared at the end of conference and it had been decided to publish it. It was also decided to publish all the papers presented in the conference in the special issue of Departments research journal Al-Qalam. It was also decided to organise women Seerat conference under the head of Dr Tahir Basharat. FAREWELL DINNER AT PU: A farewell dinner was organised in honour of Faculty of Life Science Dean Prof Dr Shahida Hussnain in the University Executive Club. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Akhtar, Prof Dr Muhammad Amin Athar, Prof Dr Khan Rass Masood, Prof Dr Rukhsana Kausar and other faculty members were also present on the occasion. Addressing the ceremony, the VC highly appreciated the academic services of Dr Shahida Hussnain for the faculty. He said that Dr Shahida had played a crucial role in promoting research culture and his faculty was very progressive in respect of producing PhDs. The other faculty members also paid rich tributes to the services of Dr Shahida and said she was a good colleague and a friend. Dr Shahida thanked the VC and all faculty members for their cooperation.
