Shahbaz anger rains down on institute

LAHORE - Expressing dissatisfaction over performance of Institute of Public Health, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif Tuesday said that the Institute had failed to give the desired results despite having manpower and financial resources as it had been observed during the anti-dengue campaign. While presiding over a meeting regarding restructuring of Institute of Public Health for making it more active and vibrant, the chief minister said that research, education and promotion of education was the prime objective of this institute and to achieve these goals, it had been decided to introduce reforms in this sector so that it can be set on modern lines like other developed countries where research had an important role. He said that a committee had been constituted for this purpose headed by Chairman P&D which has formulated its recommendations. He said however suggestions of senior faculty members would also be kept in view during the proposed restructuring of Institute of Public Health. He directed that committee should submit its recommendations within next four days after consulting senior faculty members. He further directed besides MPAs Dr. Asad Ashraf and Dr. Saeed Elahi, four members of Institute of Public Health should be included in the committee. He said that restructuring of Public Health Sector was the prime need of the hour for coping the future challenges, and for this purpose, it had been decided to make this institute more active and vibrant where research for eradicating the epidemic disease will have a great significance. Members Provincial Assembly Dr. Asad Ashraf, Dr Saeed Elahi, Secretaries of Health and Finance departments, vice Chancellors of King Edward Medical University and University of Health Sciences and faculty members of concerned department were also present on this occasion. Chairman Planning & Development Javed Aslam gave a detailed briefing regarding the restructuring of Institute of Public Health. Earlier, Chairman P&D presented the recommendations of the committee regarding restructuring of Institute of Public Health. Participants of the meeting also gave their suggestions in this regard.
