'Farmers compelled to sell wheat at low prices

LAHORE Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Ch Zaheer-ud-Din has said that anti-farmer policies of the Punjab Government have compelled the farmers to sell wheat at Rs 700 per 40-kg in some districts of the Punjab. He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of PML-Q farmers wing at his residence on Monday. He said that the target of 5 million-tone wheat procurement was just eyewash, as the provincial government neither has funds nor bags for procurement. The Provincial government could not organise funds for the wheat procurement in 6 months, which was a sheer negligence on the part of the provincial government, said Ch Zaheer. He said that it was conveyed to the Chief Minister Punjab in a meeting that the Food Department could not organise sufficient gunny bags for the procurement of 5 million tone of wheat due to ban on the jute export from Bangladesh.
