Call to sensitise youth about Iqbal’s philosophy

LAHORE - Youth is needed to be sensitised about the Iqbal’s philosophy which is beacon of light for them and guarantees Muslim renaissance, said Zulfiqar Cheema, the Inspector General of Motorways and National Highways Police, while addressing a seminar on ‘Youth in the Eyes of Iqbal’ at the Government College University, Lahore. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman chaired the seminar while DIG Operations Lahore Rana Abdul Jabbar and DIG Motorway Police Mirza Shakeel Ahmed were also present.
Cheema, who is Old Ravian, said that Poet of East Allama Iqbal had exposed the hollowness of western’s culture and philosophy and portrayed the true picture of Islam. He said Iqbal’s concept of Khudi taught Muslims to acquire knowledge and prosper instead of waiting only for the divine help. He said that it was very unfortunate that our current generation didn’t know much about Iqbal’s philosophy, adding that the Poet of East had presented the case of Muslim Ummah in the world in the way that nobody could do. He quoted Allama Iqbal’s message to Muslims which says that, “we are a chosen nation and selected to lead the entire world.”
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman said   that Iqbal’s deliberations both in verse and prose fuelled the imagination of Muslim Ummah, particularly his poetry composed in Urdu and Persian spelled out the manifesto for purposeful change.
He said that it was up to the Muslim youth today to seek light from Iqbal’s philosophy and guaranteed the revival of scientific, technological and social advancement. He said that it was a matter of great pride and inspiration for all Ravians that Iqbal had been the student of Government College, Lahore.  He said that Majlis-e-Iqbal, in connection with 150 years celebrations of GCU, had initiated a series of lecture on the various aspects of Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy which would be addressed the eminent Old Ravians and academicians.
Later, the Vice Chancellor presented souvenirs to the guests.
