Ramday barred from holding PBC chief office

LAHORE: Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday stopped acting advocate general Punjab Mustafa Ramday, son of former judge of Supreme Court Justice(r) Kahlilur Rehman Ramday,  from holding office of chairman Punjab Bar Council.
Advocate Abdur Rehman, member Punjab Bar Council, filed petition in the court submitting that Mustafa Ramday was interfering into the affairs of Punjab Bar Council which he was not entitled to do. He said that being acting advocate general Punjab he was looking after the affairs of PBC as its chairman.
The petitioner said that under the relevant law Ramday could not work as chairman. He requested the court to stop Ramday for meddling into the affairs of council. After hearing initial arguments, the judge issued stay order and sought replies from Ramday and Punjab government by March 26.–Staff Reporter
