LAHORE - Justice M Bilal Khan of the Lahore High Court has sought para-wise comments and personal appearance of District Police Officers (DPOs) of Gujarat and Mandi Baha-ud-Din for September 22 in a petition of PML-Q Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din, opposition leader in Punjab Assembly against alleged arrest of 200 party workers. The petitioner Ch Zaheer-ud-Din has challenged the 'illegal' arrests of party's workers and alleged political victimization on the part of PML-N led Punjab government. Dr Khalid Ranjha and Ch Fawad Hussain are representing the petitioner. He said on September 17 last, PML-Q had arranged an iftar-dinner in the honour of its parliamentarians and workers. But, he said, the PML-N some how took this gathering as political affront and show of strength by PML-Q. The national newspapers had already heated the debate that PML-N was loosing its majority and PML-Q was getting its strength back and at the same time leaning towards PPP. The opposition leader alleged that the chief minister Punjab has directed the Home Secretary to frustrate the PML-Q to silence the party. Ch Zaheer in his petition further stated that on the direction of home secretary, DPOs of Gujrat and Mandi Baha-ud-Din launched a crackdown against PML-Q and arrested over 200 party's workers under fake cases of section 153 PPC. Police arrested and tortured the workers only to settle political scores of PML-N government, he said. He prayed to court to direct the Inspector General Police Punjab to produce all the record of sweep campaign against PML-Q and be restrained from invoking section 153 PPC in future. All the arrested workers should be produce before a medical board for their medical examination. The judge has summoned the DPOs for September 22.
