Pakistan's Saadi Abbas notches up bronze

LAHORE - Pakistan's Saadi Abbas won bronze medal in 22nd Bosporus International Karate Championship being held at Istanbul, Turkey. The events is being participated by leading teams from all over the world including Azerbaijan, Tunis, Syria, Ukraine, Jordan, Georgia, Algeria, Jordan, Switzerland and four teams from Turkey. Saadi won his 60 kgs fights against Azerbaijan, Tunis and Jordan and players to secure bronze medal. Shaukat Ali of Pakistan reached quarter-finals of 75 kgs weight category beating Azerbaijan and Tunis players but lost against Turkey who ultimately won the gold medal. Adil Jan participated in 84 kgs and Muhammad Ramzan in 67 khs in the championship. Bosporus International Karate Championship is being held regularly in Istanbul every year in which worlds best karate players participate. The team events of the championship will be held today in which Pakistan team is also participating. The Pakistan team is on one-month training and competition tour of Turkey for preparation of first Asian Martial Arts Games, Thailand. All the expenses of the tour have been born by Pakistan Sports Trust headed by Lt Gen (retd) Syed Arif Hasan who is also President POA. Arif paid special attention to the promotion of martial arts in Pakistan. The Pakistan karate team will return back on April 22.
