Commission formed to raise voice for minorities' rights

PESHAWAR - Representatives of non-Muslims and civil societies have constituted a Coordination Commission for Minorities Rights aimed at raising voice for the rights of marginalised section of society at every platform and government level as well.   
The representatives constituted the commission during an advocacy Seminar on "Religious Freedom and Minorities' Rights" organised by South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAP-Pk) held here on Friday.            
A large number of non-Muslims, including Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and representatives of civil societies from different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) participated in the seminar and shared their grievances.  
The speakers thoroughly discussed the ordeal of non-Muslims in the country in general and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular. "Our ancestors were sons of this soil, who did not migrate and stayed in Pakistan," Harun Sarb Diyal, Chairman of All Pakistan Hindus Rights Movement (APHRM) said and added, "We are marginalised people, particularly Hindus, who are reluctant even to raise voice for their fundamental human rights."                     
He said there was no facility of wedding, birth and death certificate for them. He said the Hindu community was passing through worst situation as compared to other minorities. He appealed to the government of KP to retrieve their lands so that they could construct hospitals, schools and welfare centres for Hindus' community and Muslims as well. He maintained that they also wanted to contribute to Pakistan. "Instead of selection, direct participation of non-Muslims in the elections is a best way to mitigate their problems," he suggested. Other speakers also highlighted the issues being faced by minorities and resolved for attainment of their fundamental rights.
The commission consisted of Harun Sarb Diyal, Sardar Charan Jeet Singh Sagar, Shehzad Murad and others.
Shahida Shah of SAP-Pk and a senior journalist Shamim Shahid gave a detail presentation on national and international guarantees for minorities.
