LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Friday said ex-parte proceedings would be started against politicians on their failure to personally appear in a foreign assets case.
Justice Malik Manzoor Ahmad of the LHC will hold ex-parte proceedings against politicians on September 17.
Counsel for Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former federal minister Aitzaz Ahsan, his wife Bushara Aitzaz, ex-LHC chief justice Kh Sharif, former Lahore High Court Bar Association president Ahmad Awais and NAB Chairman Qamar-uz-Zaman submitted their power ofattorneys.
Former SCBA president Asma Jahangir also appeared and told the court that she had no foreign assets. She raised objection to issuance of proclamation without hearing her. She also contended this petition was not maintainable. The court asked her to give arguments if she had any objection over its maintainability.
On May 20, Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan of the LHC ordered issuance of notices to 60 politicians, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, PML-Q chief Shujaat Hussain, PPP Patron-in-Chief Bilwal Zardari Bhutto, former President Asif Ali Zardari and others, to appear in person in the court.
