LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that instead of obsolete ticketing system, most modern electronic ticketing system will be introduced for Bus Rapid Transit System.
He said a project management unit would also be set up in Punjab Information Technology Board for this purpose. He directed that special attention should also be paid for capacity-building of the officials for getting desired results from the public welfare projects initiated by the provincial government.
The CM said this while presiding over a meeting held to review the progress of bus rapid transit system project in the provincial metropolis. Minister for Education Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Assembly Members, Chairman Planning & Development, secretaries of Transport and Housing departments, District Coordination Officer Lahore, Director General LDA and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
Shahbaz directed the department concerned to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the other roads of City including Ferozepur Road. He also directed that special attention be paid to the necessary repair of footpaths and cleanliness of roads and there should be no dust on the roads. The CM said bus rapid transit system had been designed keeping in view the requirements of the 21st century which would provide a rapid, economical and organised public transport system to the people. The CM said public transport system was the identity of cities.
Shahbaz Sharif said Daanish Technical University would be set up in Lahore with the collaboration of Middle East Technical University of brotherly Islamic country Turkey. He said the campus of this university would be set up in Arfa Kareem Software Technology Park and high quality education would be provided to the students in modern knowledge and fields of emerging sciences. He directed that an organised plan be evolved with regard to use of 100 modern buses being received from Turkey. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated a three-day anti-polio campaign by administering polio vaccine drops to the children in Children Hospital here on Saturday.
Representatives of World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF, Member Provincial Assembly Asad Ashraf, Provincial Secretary Health, doctors and nurses of Children Hospital and a large number of mothers and children were present on the occasion. Addressing the function, the CM said more than one crore 66 lakh children will be administered polio vaccine during anti-polio campaign in the province to be started from April 23 (Monday) so that the future of the builders of the country could be saved from this fatal disease.
