LAHORE -Girls have outshone boys in the Punjab University BA/BSc annual examination 2013. The PU on Wednesday announced the results at a ceremony attended by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, PU Additional Registrar Prof Dr Aurangzeb Alamgir, Additional Controller Ahmed Ali Chatha, department heads and relatives of position holders.
A total 134,880 candidates showed up in the exam and 50,281 are declared successful. The pass percentage stood 37.28.
In BSc, Sadaf Ismail from the Punjab College for Women, Civil Lines, Gujranwala, topped the exam with 706 out of 800 marks, followed by Sadia Nawaz of Punjab College of Science, Faisalabad, with 699 marks and Gulfam Shahzadi, of Punjab College of Science, Sialkot, with 684 marks.
In BA, Maria Nawaz from Toba Tek Singh grabbed the first position with 669 marks, followed by Muhammad Fahad Arshad of Lahore with securing 666 marks and Chand Hayat Bibi, of Gujranwala, with 664 marks.
Dr Ali gave away Rs100,000 to each topper, Rs75,000 and Rs65,000 to runners-up in BSc and BA respectively. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the importance of education in nation-building.
He lauded Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s vision for education.
On behalf of Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, he announced free education for the position holders in the Punjab University. He thanked Treasurer Office, Engineering Branch and IT Department for support to declare result in time.
He, while appreciating the examination staff for preparing transparent result, announced Rs200,000 for examination staff.
