Doctors’ strike continues as patients suffer

LAHORE – Young doctors continued strike at OPDs of public sector hospitals across the province, including the City, on fourth consecutive day on Thursday to press for their demand of revised service structure.
The denial of medical advice at OPDs caused huge inconvenience to the visiting patients who were left with no other option bit to go to nearby private clinics for treatment. The protesting doctors have announced to continue the strike until issuance of notification regarding the revised service structure.
Terming doctors’ strike illegal and a violation of the apex court’s orders, health department officials said that such tactics were against the spirit of a noble profession. They said that the strike was uncalled for since a committee was already working on their service structure. Several incidents of exchange of harsh arguments between doctors and attendants of visiting patients were witnessed at tertiary care hospitals in the City.
The visiting patients and their relatives cursed doctors for denying treatment, saying they were violating medical ethics and bringing a bad name to such a noble profession by going on strike. They said that taking revenge of Health Department’s mistakes from the suffering humanity was highly condemnable.
