DPOs to exercise PHP powers


LAHORE – Punjab Police Inspector General has empowered the DPOs to exercise the powers of Punjab Highways Patrol, making the latter department practically ineffective.
Addressing a high-level meeting of RPOs and several DPOs at PHQ Lahore, on Wednesday, according to the Punjab Police spokeswoman, the issues relating to arrest of most wanted POs, controlling abduction for ransom, identification of no-go areas, strategy to clear them, control of firing in weddings, control of criminal activities in hotels, interaction with judiciary, proposal for improvement of prosecution and strategy to improve the security of the banks, were discussed.
Implementation of IG’s directives relating to Thikri Pehera, establishment of crimes investigation agency, holding of open courts on daily basis and setting up one Model Police Station in each sub-division were also reviewed in the meeting.
While chairing another high level-meeting relating to analysis the crime situation in Lahore, the Provincial Police Chief directed CCPO and DIG Operations Lahore to come forward and take personal interest to control the crime rate of the metropolitan city. He directed them to increase the deployment in high criminal zones. He also instructed to beef up patrolling activities and ensure that the criminals are taken to task on the pickets instead of innocent citizens.  Addl IG CTD and Addl IG Special Branch also briefed the IGP regarding terrorism, Jehaddi and sectarian organisations, their links and network operating in various areas of the province.
