LAHORE - Speakers of Awan-e-Waqt Forum seminar on Thursday said death of dengue infected persons is the result of delay in treatment so the people instead of fearing, fight the disease.
The seminar was arranged by Daily Nawa-i-Waqt and The Nation under title “Dengue fever and preventive measures”, which was attended by Provincial Health Minister Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Medical Education Advisor Dr Javed Iqbal, General Cadre Doctors Association President Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh and Medical Teachers Association General Secretary Dr Tehseen Riaz.
Addressing the seminar Khalil Sindhu said dengue is hitting in 138 countries of the world and most affected countries are Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thai Land. He said the dengue was diagnosed in Pakistan in 1980 starting from Karachi and later spread in different parts. He said Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif struggled hard for the elimination of the dengue and now the disease is under control. He said the CM has taken all the departments on board and no death been reported so far.
Addressing the seminar, Dr Javed Iqbal said the disease will sustain until spread of mosquito is eleminiated from such countries where its roots. Thai Land has controlled the promulgation as its fighting against the disease since last 68 years. Dr Tenseen Riaz suggested ‘prevention is better than cure’ in all the diseases including dengue.
He said the best prevention is to control the growth of dengue mosquitoes. Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh said a visible decrease in dengue and malaria has been noticed as the government is taking strict measures for the elimination of dengue mosquitoes.
