LAHORE - A senior PML-N leader from Sindh said on Wednesday that change of system was necessary to solve the problems facing the country at present. "In fact the country will have to fight a war for independence", Imdad Chandio said while delivering a lecture at Hameed Nizami Hall. ANP Secretary General Ehsan Wyne and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Senior Vice President Ejaz Chaudhry also spoke. Chandio said foreign policy of the country was formulated by the army and not the civil government. He said PML-N was aware of the situation and was striving to change the system. He made it clear PML-N wanted to bring about the required change through ballot. He said opulence was not a hurdle for bringing revolution in the country needed at present. He said Benazir Bhutto's assassination was part of a well thought-out-plan which could not be dismissed just as an accident. He said had it been an accident, the Karsaz incident in Karachi would not have taken place. The attack on Ms Bhutto's procession was launched after she had returned to Pakistan from a long self-imposed exile. A large number of people were killed in the attack, though Ms Bhutto remained unhurt. The Sindhi leader said many people were in contact with Asif Ali Zardari when he was in prison. And when he was released, he was no longer with Benazir Bhutto, the PML-N leader, implying that the husband had changed his thinking about his wife. He said the evidence of the tragedy had been washed down. In his opinion the situation would not have been as bad as it was today if Benazir Bhutto had been alive. ANP Secretary General Ehsan Wyne said the foreign policy being pursued at present was more to protect the interests of foreign powers than Pakistan's. He said people were fed up with the prevailing situation and were getting impatient to come out on the streets. In case they did, he warned, political parties or the army would not be able to control them -and those living in palaces would not survive. He said in case the government was made to quit, corruption would be the main cause behind it. Wyne said the government was very lucky as all political parties including PML-N were supporting it. He said Mian Nawaz Sharif wanted stability of the democratic system. The JUI (F)'s decision to part ways had not changed the situation a bit, he remarked. He said this was the last chance for the government to deliver. It should uproot corruption and enable the poor to lead an honourable life. About the RGST, he said, the ANP was opposed to it. He said his party wanted the rich taxed and poor exempted. The ANP leader said if the US could hold talks with the Taliban to eradicate terrorism, there was no reason for the Pakistan government not to get in contact with the relevant quarters for the same purpose.
