LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Ramazan bazaars, set up throughout the province, are providing relief to the people in real sense.
Addressing a meeting of Provincial Price Control Committee through video link on Tuesday, the chief minister said that quality flour, pulses, fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs and other edibles were being provided to the masses at concessionary rates. He directed that provincial ministers, assembly members, secretaries and government officers should continue to pay visits to Ramazan bazaars on regular basis.
The CM said that the prices of daily use items like fruits and vegetables have stabilised due to effective strategy and the measures adopted by his government. He said that the effective system devised for the checking of quality and rates of essential items had yielded positive results. Sharif said that his visits to Ramazan bazaars and continuous monitoring had resulted in availability of quality essential items to the citizens at cheaper rates.
He further said that the Punjab government was providing a subsidy of five billion rupees for the provision of flour at cheaper rate during Ramazan. He said that the supply of quality daily use items to the citizens through Ramazan bazaars established throughout the province was continuing. He also directed that action against hoarders and profiteers should be continued without any discrimination, warning that no one would be allowed to exploit the citizens. He said that the mechanism evolved for the provision of quality edibles to the masses at concessionary rates should be fully implemented. He said that prices and quality of daily use items should also be ensured in open market.
