LAHORE - The Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, set for the assistance of Internally Displaced Persons hailing from North Waziristan, received Rs 160million on Saturday.
Philanthropists, industrialists, traders, Assembly members and people from various walks of life met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and presented cheques to him.
Philanthropists of Lahore gave cheques worth Rs350m, while industrialists presented cheques for Rs135m, which include Rs2.5m by Guard Group, Rs2.5m by SK Brothers, Rs3m by Master Paints and Rs2.5m by Packages. A business group, Bahria Town, presented cheque for Rs100m, while DPS Sahiwal Principal Brig Anwaar-ul-Haq Kirmani donated Rs0.525m in the fund.
Others who presented cheques to the CM include MPA Dr Nadia Aziz Rs0.8m, MPA Pir Ghulam Farid Rs0.5m, MNA Shazia Wattoo Rs0.1m, Sardar Zulfiqar Rs1m, Asia Poultry Feed CEO Ghulam Nabi Chaudhry Rs5m, Veterinary University Lahore VC Dr Talat Naseer Pasha Rs1.1m, Mian Waqar Rs1m and Saleem Ghauri Rs1m. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that a large number of people were donating funds for IDPs in response to his appeal.
He said that every penny of money, donated towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, would be spent in a transparent manner. Commending this spirit of help for distressed people, the CM referred to the donors that they were earning the blessings of Almighty Allah by helping IDPs.
