Lahore - Former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that education would be the top priority of the next Punjab government and it will introduce rapid education system in the province to increase literacy rate.
Shahbaz Sharif, who is set to become the Punjab chief minister for the third term, chairing a meeting of newly elected legislators in Lahore on Wednesday, said that Rs725 billion would be spent on education in Punjab in next five years.
Shahbaz Sharif said that in the recent elections people from rural and the urban areas alike reposed trust in the leadership of the PML-N and now the party would not leave any stone unturned to live up to their expectations.
Highlighting the performance of the PML-N in Punjab, he said ‘we are proud of what we did and our performance demonstrates that the PML-N does not believe in rhetoric but action and results’.
Shahbaz Sharif said that Metro Bus, cardiology hospital in every major city, Ashiyana Housing Scheme, Laptop Distribution Scheme, Ujala Programme and Educational Scholarships were among the major projects of the Punjab government which testify sincerity of the party leadership.
The PML-N government will not only set up more Daanish schools but also upgrade thousands of public schools in the province, he added. “We are going to bring about revolutionary changes in the education sector to lift its standard to the international level.
The ex-CM told the legislators-elect that masses put a great responsibility on their shoulders by electing them and they must not forget that they were answerable to the populace.
He said the goodwill and popularity of the party depended on their performance. “Your efficiency and performance will be closely monitored with reward to those who perform well and accountability of those who fail.”
He warned that the legislators with disappointing performance would be expelled from the party.
Earlier, talking to the media men Shahbaz Sharif said that the PML-N government would respect every suggestion from the opposition for ending loadshedding and improving education and other sectors.
He said that the PML-N committees on ending loadshedding and increasing power generation had already started work on their task.
He said that the PML-N will give a surprising performance.
