LAHORE - A special division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued directions for the police to arrest the proclaimed offenders in cases of criminal activities in courts.
While holding the proceedings, the bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial suggested that security cards like CNIC cards should be introduced for litigants for entry into the courts’ premises.
He said in this regard, the police should take the lawyers’ representatives into confidence. The court directed the police to apprise on next date of hearing about action against accused involved in criminal activities at the courts premises.
A law officer appearing before the court submitted that steps are being taken to ensure fool proof security of the courts. He said several accused of causing firing incidents at courts premises are arrested.
At this the court asked for action against police officials not doing investigation on merit.
Earlier the court had passed direction for installation of CCTV cameras in all subordinate courts around the province.
Kashif Pasha, advocate for the petitioner, has voiced concern saying that law and order situation was not upto the mark all over the country but increasing ugly events in court premises had made the situation worse, creating a sense of terror among the judges and litigants.
The court will take up the matter on November 19.
