LAHORE - Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan has said that a gang of thieves and plunderers is resisting the implementation of the Apex Court verdict on the NRO. Addressing the opening session of the JI Central Shoora at Mansoora on Wednesday, he said the PPP government had adopted an aggressive attitude against the Apex Court and was talking of threats to the federation and dispatching dead bodies to the Punjab. Former JI chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Secretary General Liaquat Baloch, Prof Ghaafoor Ahmed, Prof Khurshid Ahmed, Prof Muhammad Ibrahim, Dr Waseem Akhtar, Asadullah Bhutto, Abdul Mateen Akhundzada, Sirajul Haq and Ch Aslam Saleem attended the meeting. Munawar Hassan said the PPP had itself rejected the NRO by not presenting it before the National Assembly. He said, the PML-N too had failed to play the role of opposition and in fact the two parties had joined hands to protect vested interests. The Apex Court judgment, he said, was perfectly in accordance with the constitution and the law and all hue and cry was simply to protect criminals. He warned that confrontation would only harm the country and the PPP. He said the PPP was bent upon opposing the Apex Court order while the PML-N had failed to play the role of an opposition. He said the Interior Secretary and FIA officials were punished for obeying the court order. On the other hand, a campaign had been launched against the Chief Justice and the superior judiciary. He however declared that if there were any move against the Chief Justice and the judiciary, the masses would be on roads once again. He was sure the Apex Court would continue to administer justice in any case and the masses would defend its decisions. Criticising the PML-N, the JI chief said as and when its leadership was attacked, the two sides came to blow but when matters concerning the country and the people were involved, the two ganged up to protect mutual interests. He deplored that bank loans to the tune of 193 billion had been written off from the year 1997 to 2000. 'Elements conspiring against democracy The office-bearers of PPPs Lahore chapter believe that people creating hurdles in the way of government, were actually conspiring against the democratic system. In a joint press statement issued on Wednesday, President PPPs Lahore Chapter Chudhary Asghar Gujjar, Secretary Information Malik Azhar Mughal and Secretary General Akbar Khan said those thinking of assemblies dissolution were living in fools paradise as such an eventuality would never come. They said assemblies would complete their tenure. They alleged that opposition parties were trying to incite against the government on different issues, but this policy of theirs would be dangerous for the country. The Government is not answerable to any of the political parties but to the people of Pakistan, who showed their confidence in PPP in elections. The PPP leaders said that President Asif Ali Zardari was struggling to pull the country out of economic crisis, as economically strong Pakistan will attract the foreign investors to invest in Pakistan without any. This is the only solution for the unemployment problem, they observed. They further stated that the President and Prime Minister were following the mission of Muhterma Benazir Bhutto. Those talking of minus-one formula, should know that PPP would accept nothing short of a Zardari-plus formula, they said, adding it was Asif Ali Zardari, who threw out Musharaf from power in few months, an achievement for which PML (N) probably would have taken eight years.
