LAHORE - The Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan has warned the government of strong resistance by the nation if Islamabad decided to hand over Pakistani citizens and high military officials to the US for trial by an American court. Commenting on reports of a US court issuing summons to the sitting and former ISI chiefs besides some citizens in connection with the Mumbai attacks, Syed Munawar Hasan said in a press statement on Thursday that the US courts could not be expected to do justice to Pakistans senior military officers and notable citizens after Dr Aafia Siddiquis conviction by an American court without any evidence. He said the complainant of the case before the US court was a biased Zionist and the US, Israel and India were bent upon punishing the Pakistani intelligence agencies through their courts. The JI leader said the US court had besmeared the face of the US judicial system by sentencing Dr Aafia Siddiqui and no body in the world would be ready to trust the US judicial system now. He said, actually India wanted to trap Pakistan army officers through US courts because the Indian courts could not summon Pakistani officials and citizens. Munawar Hasan said the American society, its rulers and judiciary had to account for the blood being shed by the drone attacks in this country. He said this was a test case for the Pakistani government. If the rulers surrendered to the US court and handed over our citizens and high officials to the US, the countrys image in the comity of nations would be tarnished further and Pakistan would become a laughing stock. In such an eventuality, he said, the rulers wont have any right to remain in power. He stressed upon Islamabad to demand compensation from Washington for the killing of innocent Pakistanis in the drone at tacks. The JI chief said, if the US and India had any evidence in connection with the Mumbai attacks, the same should be passed on to Islamabad and the suspects could be tried by the Pakistani courts. He said, in fact, India had failed to bring forth any evidence of Pakistans involvement in the Mumbai attacks and was now seeking the US courts assistance in this regard while the US judiciary had already lost its repute in the world.
