LAHORE - As election campaign picks momentum in NA-123, PML-N government intensifies infrastructure rehabilitation plan in the constituency by completing 9 inside roads costing Rs62 million and inaugurating China Road worth Rs50 million in the area. PML-N MPA Ch Shahbaz Tuesday inaugurated the remodelling of China Road in Gujjar Pura in NA-123. A large number of local PML-N leaders turned up on the occasion. Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has been awarded this remodelling project. The infrastructure rehabilitation plan of this area includes rehabilitation of two main roads namely China and Bhogiwal Road. The development work will help uplift of the neglected and backward area. China Road a 1.5km long road that starts from Bund Road leads to Chota Ravi and GT Road near Engineering University. The road was in shambles, however it is now being constructed on the pattern of other model roads of the City. The sewerage lines have already been laid and the road will be completed in 5 months with the appropriate facilities including street lights, lane marking and water disposal system. Another 3.5km long Bhogiwal Road linking GT Road with Bund Road is the main approach road of this locality. It will serve as an important connection when the Ring Road becomes operational. Earlier this road was submerged with water and filth due to low-lying area and now the new road is being raised by 2.5ft above ground. A 3ft wide drain is also being constructed on both sides of the road, which will be covered by a footpath. Presently the laying of underground sewerage is in progress by WASA. The project includes laying of a trunk and secondary sewers ranging from 12 to 72 inches width and the construction of a lift station at Gujjar Pura drain on Bhogiwal Road. The new trunk sewer will meet the present and future needs of the whole area spreading from Bhogiwal, Singhpura to Moghalpura, Baghbanpura and Wheetman Road. However this project has so far not been awarded to FWO. Moreover nine inside roads in the NA-123 comprising 4.25km have already been completed at a cost of Rs62 million. Besides patchwork has been done on many other roads. An efficient sewerage system has been built with each road to overcome the problems of a low-lying area. Miscellaneous works include rehabilitation of green belts and construction of a graveyard at Sher Shah Road. Degree Colleges for boys and girls, a district hospital at Sher Shah Road and a playground as well as a park has also been constructed in the area. Meanwhile PML-N candidate from NA-123 Pervez Malik addressing a public meeting said the development work would change the fate of the area. He said PML-N would spare no effort to uplift the living standard of the people. He said PML-N honours the common men, acknowledges their right and wants to improve their living standards. He said after March 10 every resident of NA 123 would see the change, as he would have access to the facilities like gas and pure water. Pervez Malik said land would be allocated for new educational institutes, mosques and graveyards. He said that development work in NA-123 would be completed in a winsome manner. He said that workers of peoples party could not even think to give their votes to Jamaat-e-Islami, as PPP workers love Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and cant pass their vote to those who always criticised PPP leadership.
