LAHORE - Before going home Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri on Monday visited the Jinnah Hospital and inquired after the 10 PAT workers who were injured in police action on June 17.
The gesture was aimed at expressing solidarity with those who would stand by him in his struggle for the change of system.
However, the inconvenience caused to other patients was conveniently overlooked. Strong security arrangements had been made before his arrival at the medical facility. Law enforcement agencies checked identity cards of patients and their attendants, searched their bodies and scanned the entire premises to avoid any untoward incident during the visit of high profile personalities including Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
On listening the news that Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri would inquire after the health of injured before going to Minhaj-ul-Quran Secretariat, hundreds of PAT and MQI workers gathered at Jinnah Hospital to get a glimpse of their leader.
Highly charged workers chanted slogans in favour of their leader and against PML-N leadership. As convoy of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri vehicles entered Jinnah Hospital, PAT workers stopped sloganeering and tried to go as close to their leader as possible.
As Tahir-ul-Qadri alighted from the vehicle, PAT leaders took him inside the hospital under bullet proof shield to ensure his safety. Entrance gate to Admin Block and dozens of flower pots were broken as large number of PAT workers tried to enter the hospital premises along with their leader. Dr Qadri inquired after seven injured PAT workers in Surgical Unit I and three getting treatment at Intensive Care Unit. Out of three getting treatment at ICU, two are at ventilator and one of them is still in critical condition. The patients in Surgical Unit 1 are stable and their life is out of danger. Dr Qadri went from bed to bed and inquired after the health of injured except those on ventilators. Plight of the injured patients made his eyes wet which he wiped with his hands.
Talking to the media at Medical Superintendent office after inquiring after the health of injured, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that Model Town tragedy has reminded time of Hitler and Mussolini. Flanked by Ch Muhammad Sarwar and Ch Pervaiz Elahi, he said that Nawaz Sharif was a Hitler and Shahbaz Sharif Mussolini of present time. Referring to the purpose of his visit, Qadri said that he would not go back till bringing a revolution through peaceful protests.
He said that there was need to give justice to victims of Model town tragedy. He vowed to take revenge of every drop of blood of martyrs and injured from the rulers. He said that his arrival panicked rulers who diverted plane from Islamabad to Lahore. He said that his arrival was start of movement which would continue till giving rights to the poor, hope of good future to youth, elimination of corruption and rule of law. Referring to Model Town tragedy and other unpleasant incidents, he said that the government could have avoided present situation if its men including Rana Sanaullah consulted Governor Punjab Ch Sarwar.
He appreciated media, stating that Allah Almighty in heaven and media men on earth protected innocent people.
He thanked Sh Rashid, Ch Pervaiz Elahi, PTI, MQM, Majlis Wahdatul Muslimoon and Sunni Ittehad Council.
