LAHORE: To commemorate the Pakistan Day, the Rangers Exhibition Drill Squad (REDS) of the Punjab Rangers performed a unique drill at Pakistan Monoment, a statement issued from the provincial headquarters said on Saturday. The exhibition drill is a modified routine that involves complex marching sequences that usually deviate from standard drill, Rangers official said.
Across the world “Exhibition Drill Squads” are affiliated with military units as well as civilian drill teams. However, in Pakistan this honor is exclusively held by Pakistan Rangers (Punjab).
Since long Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) is performing exhibition drill at flag lowering ceremonies at Joint Check Posts Wagha, Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanke. The individual and collective patriotic spirit, exuberance and perfection in drill movements during these displays, had been a source of attraction at national and international level.
Being the only Force performing exhibition drill in Pakistan on daily basis, Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) continuously make endeavours to explore new avenues for improvement. Consequently, it was realized that existing moves of exhibition drill should be morphed into displays having wider scope of presentation, which are not tethered to border point only. Thus leading to the formation of “Rangers Exhibition Drill Squad (REDS)” in July 11.
Keeping uniformity as a key element, REDS exhibition drill is designed to perform at ceremonial and public venues. It is by no means intended to replace the existing format of Wagha, Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki parades. The sequence adopted is primarily based on standard drill but has been infused with synchronized and intricate precision movements. The entire display is coordinated without verbal cautions and includes coordinated moves, rifle spins, tosses and solo performance. In addition, adoption of different formation by the squad, and complex movements of files in a weave – in and weaves – out pattern were also incorporated in the display.
REDS has the honor to perform at Pakistan Military Academy, FF Regimental Centre, Baloch Regimental Centre besides key events inclduing Gala arranged by 1 Corps in Mangla in Spring in Winter, the Gala organized in Rangers Public School, Bahawalpur, and on Jashn-e-Baharan festival organized by Pakistan Rangers (Punjab).
Excellence in drill is a function of discipline and dedication which are a hallmark for an Armed Force. The initiative will indeed trigger a competitive spirit and buoyage of morale within Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) and will contribute in improving the achieved drill standards, the spokesman added.
