Labourers new salary demanded

LAHORE - Labour Party Pakistan has announced to hold a sit-in on Tuesday (today) at Charing Cross in favour of their demands including increase in salaries of the labour class, ending the energy crisis and controlling the price-hike, while the protest will continue till the acceptance of their demands. Addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Monday, Farooq Tariq, spokesman of LPP, he claimed that instead of proposing salary raise for millions of labours in the upcoming budget, government was planning to levy new taxes around Rs 200 billion. Tariq demanded of the government to increase the minimum wages of labour from Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000 in the upcoming budget. He said that federal finance minister had meetings with the traders, multinationals and industrialists to get their proposals for the upcoming budget but he did not bother to contact the labourers to get their suggestions. He claimed that there was also a proposal to expand the base of general sales tax, which would bring another wave of price hike.
