CJP higlights values of Bar

LAHORE - The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muham-mad Chaudhry has said that Bar and the Bench are part of the judiciary administration. Talking to the members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) after inaugurating the Iftikhar Hall of the SCBA in the Supreme Court building here on Saturday, the CJ highlighted the value of the Bar room of the lawyers. Bar room is itself an institution wherein lawyers share their views and find opportunities to learn more about their profession. Lawyers always love their Bar. It is such a venue where lawyers also learn how to uphold rule of law, he added. SCBA president Qazi Anwar said that lawyers stood for the rule and independence of judiciary and they would also stand with the judiciary in that cause. Earlier, the CJP inaugurated the Iftikhar Hall of the Supreme Court Bar in Supreme Court building besides presiding over a meeting of the Building Committee. He cut ribbon in the presence of Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jilani, Registrar Supreme Court Dr Fariq Hussain, President SCBA Qazi Anw-ar and other members of the Bar and senior lawyers. On the occasion, the lawyers also raised slogans in favor of the chief justice. JUI-S calls for talks with Taliban Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Samiul-Haq) has called for talks with the 'resistance forces in the tribal areas, halting the military operation against them. The demand was made through a resolution adopted by the partys central executive. Newly elected Ameer Maulana Samiul Haq presided over the meeting. Another resolution condemned the US drone attacks as violation of Pakistans sovereignty. Urging the government to have these attacks stopped, the resolution warned that the rulers would be held responsible for consequences in case they failed. Another resolution held the US responsible for the deteriorating law and order in various provinces, and urged the patriotic forces to address the matter. Special concern was expressed on depreciation of Pak currency and loadshedding, holding the governments mismanagement responsible for the situation. Yet another resolution condemned the government for failing to win confidence of the international community. It underlined the need for swift measures for the rehabilitation of the flood victims.
