LAHORE Chief Operating Officer Ittefaq Hospital Brig (R) Dr Hafeez-ud-Din Ahmed Siddiqui has said that all treatment facilities were being provided free of cost to all dengue patients at Ittefaq Hospital and according to the directions of the government, Rs 90 were being charged as fee for CBC tests. Talking to the newsmen on Friday, he said that deserving patients were being treated at the hospital with the financial cooperation of Sharif Brothers and doctors and paramedical staff were discharging their duties diligently round the clock. Col (R) Ghulam Rasool, Dr Riaz and the heirs of a 15-year old patient Shafique, who died a few days ago, were also present on the occasion. Dr Hafeez-ud-Din informed that 170 Dengue patients were admitted at the hospital since September 11, out of which 110 have been discharged after recovery while 60 were under-treatment. However, no patient died due to dengue disease in the hospital, he added. Giving details of medical facilities being given to dengue patients, Dr Hafeez-ud-Din informed that 13800 patients were provided facilities including free tests since September 11 and 1500 persons were daily examined and an amount of Rs.7 to 8 lakh was being spent daily. He further informed that hospital administration did not accept government aid, zakat and donation and Rs5.60 crore had been spent on the treatment of deserving patients during 2010-11. He said besides opening a separate counter in the hospital for dengue patients, 60 beds have been reserved as per the government instructions. He said that the death of patient namely Shafique admitted at the hospital was not due to dengue a few days, however, administration has returned Rs 1.37 lakh to the heirs of the deceased. He further said that a committee has been constituted for confirmation of dengue in the patients visiting the hospital daily after examining all the tests.
