IGP given another chance to comply with court orders

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Tuesday gave another opportunity to Inspector General of Police Punjab to comply the earlier orders of the Supreme Court and LHC in DSP-rank officers’ promotion case.
IGP Haji Habibur Rehman told the court that the department had written to Punjab service tribunal regarding the courts orders. He said the tribunal had refused to accept the police department’s plea regarding the promotion of DSPs following apex and Lahore High Court orders. The IGP undertook that the court orders would be implemented within 12 hours.
The chief justice ordered the IGP to submit the compliance report with one week.
The DSPs had sought their due promotion in the light of judicial orders and filed contempt petition against IGP for not complying the orders. They had contended that the department was not promoting them on the objection that they did not have the required two-year field work experience which, they said, was not mandatory for the promotion. Some petitioners said promotion to the rank of SP had been due for many years but the department’s high-ups had not granted them promotion so far. They pointed out the apex court had also ordered the department to promote them but the authorities ignored that order too.
