LAHORE - A 55-year-old man went berserk shooting dead four family members over domestic dispute in Kahna, police said Thursday.
The man identified as Sarfraz, alias Bobi, took out a gun and opened fire at his daughter-in-law, Sonia, 26, during a reconciliatory meeting when her mother, Razia Bibi, refused to send her back. Sikandar, son of the killer, came in front of his wife to save her life. Resultantly, he sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The man fell furious after witnessing his son lying in a pool of blood and opened indiscriminate fire, targeting the in-laws of Sikandar in revenge.
Four people including two women sustained serious bullet wounds and were rushed to hospital. “Two of the injured died in the way,” Muhammad Afzal duty officer at Kahna police station said.
Later, the angry gunman went after the wounded as they were being rushed to hospital near Gulwaira bus-stop and unleashed the second strike, killing two of the three injured instantly while the third was shifted to the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) in critical condition.
Those died in the gun assault were identified as Sonia, 26, her husband Skindar, 29, her mother Razia Sultana, 50, and brother Waqar. The police reached the spot and removed the bodies to morgue. The meeting, also attended by elders of both the families to resolve a dispute, was held at the house of Muhammad Liaqat at Mohalla Malikanwala located near Layliyani at Ferozepur Road. Sikandar along with his father had visited the house of his in-laws to reconcile with his estranged wife. Police were hunting the killer who was still at large. Police registered two separate FIRs with Mustafabad of district Kasur, and Lahore’s Kahna police stations. Further investigation is underway.
