LAHORE - Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar has said that education is the art of healing the mind and it motivates and inspires while the credit goes to the mentor. He said Pakistan’s vibrant and energetic youth is in fact the future of the country.
He expressed these views while addressing the participants of 44th Annual Convocation of Government College of Home Economics, Gulberg here on Tuesday.
MPA Lubna Faisal and Director Colleges Lahore Rana Nasim Akhtar, faculty members, parents and large number of students were also present on the occasion.
Punjab Governor while addressing on the occasion said that successful education system was the one that enables students to learn language and skills requisite for the 21st century, the richness of their history and the Islamic values of tolerance, generosity and community. He said education was the single most important factor which could transform Pakistan’s future. It boosts economy broadens outlook and offer brighter future for poor children who otherwise may be on streets, he said and added the future of education lies in technology, building socio economic infrastructure of the country for developing a strong sustainable Pakistan. Punjab Governor congratulated the students, stressing the importance of perseverance and hard work and said that the secret to success anywhere lies in commitment and hard work. Later on, Punjab Governor distributed degrees certificates among the students.
Students received their degrees, prizes, certificates, rolls of honor and medals. Some 154 students of MSc, 15 students of MPhil received degrees, four students clinched certificates of diploma, four students bagged gold medals and roll of honor, eight students got gold medals and special awards, 21 girls received prizes for their 1st, 2nd, 3rd positions in their respective classes. Those who got first prizes in the classes are Hira Zahid of Bs (Part I) 1st year, Aqsa Nasarullah of Bs part I 2nd year, Mina Butt of BS (Part II) 1st year, Nehdia Ahmad of Bs Part II 2nd year, Saima Ahmad of MSc Part I, Rahme Sadiq of Msc Part II and Maimoona Khalid of M.Phil Part II.
Principal Prof Dr Samia Kalsoom welcomed guests and presented the annual report of the college. She, in her address, congratulated the students, their parents and teachers. Prof Dr Samia Kalsoom said, “the secret to success anywhere lies in commitment and hard work” While presenting annual report, she highlighted the curricular and co-curricular activities being carried out in the college. She mentioned the practical support of Food and Nutrition Department in Brest Cancer, and their invaluable seminars on health, incessant efforts of the Science Department for dengue awareness seminars, walks, poster competitions and dengue detection desk.
