Lahore - Like other parts of the world, Christians will celebrate Christmas across the country today (Wednesday). In Lahore, Christmas ceremonies will be held at Cathedral Church, Saint Mary Church, Saint Anthony and Saint Mary Church.
A special service will be held at Cathedral Church while tableaus at all leading schools including Cathedral School, St Anthony’s, St Peter’s, Convent of Jesus and Mary, Sacred Heart Scholl will be presented. Similar events will be held in other cities of the country.
In Islamabad, Pakistan Peoples Party Foreign Liaison Committee on Tuesday organised a Christmas function here at PPP Central Secretariat.
The Christmas function chaired by Ambassador of Netherland Marcel De Vink was participated by a large number of PPP's lawmakers and workers. Speaking on the occasion, Coordinator PPP Foreign Liaison Committee Palwsha Behram said that PPP has always struggled for the minority rights in the country.
The PPP desires a Pakistan envisioned by the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah free of fear and terror where all the followers of every religion is free to practice their religion without fear.
The chief guest in his address said that it was very unfortunate that Pakistan faced a very difficult year with regard to law and order situation. He prayed and hoped that 2014 will be a peaceful year in Pakistan.
Senator Farhatullah Babar, Fauzia Habib, Malik Hakmeen Khan, Faisal Karim Kundi, Asma Alamgir, Amir Fida Paracha, Sibtul Haider Bukhari, Sheikh Mansoor, Nazir Dhoki, Syed Ansar Gilani, Sohail Roomi and Ajmal Danial were present on the occasion.
The PML-Q’s top leadership vowed that the party would continue safeguarding the minorities’ rights.
In a message on the occasion of Christmas, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that role of the Christian community and other minorities is vital for the country’s progress. They also extended heartiest greetings to Christian brethren on the auspicious occasion of Christmas.
They maintained that taking special measures for the welfare and well-being of the minorities was always the part of the PML-Q agenda. They said that the party during its tenure in power took steps like return of missionary institutions, right of dual vote, double quota in jobs and provision of record development funds.
