Biting cold holds City in grip

LAHORE - Plains of Punjab including the City remained in the grip of severe cold on Sunday with experts predicting the prevailing weather conditions to persist during the next couple of days. Though with less intensity as compared to the last couple of days, the fog still hampered vehicular movement throughout the province, delaying arrival and departure of domestic and international flights and disturbing normal schedule of trains. Besides Lahore, Sialkot, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Okara, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Narowal, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Pindi Bhattian and Sheikhupura also remained in grip of severe cold and foggy weather. In City, lifting of fog at noon and abundance of sunshine provided some respite to the Lahorites from prevailing harsh winter conditions. On Sunday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 17 degree Celsius and 05 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 100 per cent, which decreased to 69 per cent in the evening. According to the experts, Saturdays trough of westerly wave over upper parts of the country has moved eastwards. Local meteorological department has forecast cold and dry weather with mist in the morning for the City. Met office has forecast mainly cold and dry weather for most parts of the country. However, foggy conditions are likely to continue over the plains of Punjab.
