Sensitising masses on organ donation stressed

LAHORE - Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Kh Salman Raffiq has stressed the need of sensitising people on importance of donation of human organs.
Chairing a meeting held at Civil Secretariat on Friday to review progress on establishment of Paeds Organs Transplantation Center at Children’s Hospital, he said that the government was taking feedback from medical experts and heads of different institutions for establishing a state of the art centre.
Secretary Health Babar Hayat Tarar, Addl Secretary Health (Development) Ghulam Farid, Addl. Secretary (Tech) Dr Anwar Janjua, Chairman Sheikh Zayed Hospital Prof Zaffar Iqbal, Dr Tariq Bangash, Professor of Surgery KEMU Prof Arshad Cheema, Dean Institute of Child Health & Children Hospital Prof Masood Sadiq, Medical Director Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, Prof Huma Arshad Cheema and other officers attended the meeting. Prof Zaffar Iqbal and Dr Tariq Bangash briefed the meeting about facility of lever transplantation at SZH.
They informed the meeting regarding achievements and possible technical cooperation with the Children’s Hospital in setting up Paeds Organs Transplantation Center.
Prof Masood Sadiq informed that a purpose built building and complete infrastructure was already available at the hospital.
He said that doctors and nurses would be imparted training for this specialty from Birmingham Hospital, UK. He said that a 5-year surety bond for serving at government sector would be obtained from the doctors and nurses.
Babar Hayat Tarar said that experience and expertise of SZH and Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation Karachi (SIUT) would be obtained for setting up the center.
