JAP to challenge IHC decision on AQ case

LAHORE - Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) has announced to challenge the decision of Islamabad High Court on nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer's detention in Supreme Court as well as for suspension of the arrest warrants of Pervaiz Elahi and others by Lahore High Court through a Suo moto proceedings. An emergent meeting of the Executive Committee of Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) decided during a meeting chaired by its chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique on Friday. It was decided in the meeting that the JAP will take up on priority basis the matters of illegal detention of Dr Abdul Qadeer, Suo moto case of suspension of warrant of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, innocent killings by the twine in kite flying and price hiking of commodities, including increase in petroleum products would be filed in the superior courts. The meeting noted that in view of the general problems being faced by the public at large, Public Interest Litigation (PIL) cases should be filed before the superior courts in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta. It will help in boosting up the movement of restoration of judiciary. The meeting said through publications in newspapers, the attention of the public at large would be invited to approach JAP for relief in PIL cases, free of cost. After the meeting JAP representatives joined the protest organised by the Tehrik-e-Khaksar at Lahore Press Club regarding illegal detention of Dr Abdul Qadeer. Speaking on the occasion Chairman JAP, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, advocate, warned the government that if Dr Abdul Qadeer is not released within a period of seven days, he will file a constitutional petition before the courts.
