Allegations by Sarabjit’s counsel denied

LAHORE – The Punjab Prisons authorities have condemned the accusations, about maltreatment, by the counsel of Sarabjit Singh saying the inmate was in sound health and gaining weight with ever passing day.
An official communiqué issued by the Additional Superintendent Central Jail on Tuesday, says that Sarabjit Singh was never tortured or given poisonous meal. “He is being properly looked after and provided with needful medical care. He is quite healthy and always promptly treated whenever he needed for same health problem,” it says.
Authorities said that the inmate was being served with nourishing and quality food after proper examination by the medical officer Jail in accordance with rule.
They further said that on August 6, 2012, two officials from the Indian Embassy met him in the jail in the presence of a deputy superintendent jail but he made no complaint to them regarding any kind of torture or maltreatment.
Sources said that Sarabjit’s weight was 150 pound when he was imprisoned and now he had gained more weight and was crossing 200 pound.
The official handout issued by the Punjab Prisons Deparment also says the people like Advocate Awais Sheikh should be condemned for causing disgrace for Pakistan in the nations of world just to gain cheap popularity.
