LAHORE – Crimes Investigation Agency police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two gangsters involved in four bank robberies, which took place in different parts of the City during the last year.
According to a press-note issued by a police spokesman, the arrested gangsters, identified as Raza Khan and Waseem Haroon, have confessed to police investigators that they had robbed four branches of different banks at gunpoint last year. The accused Raza Khan is said to be the resident of district Mardan while Waseem Haroon belonged to district Kohat. However, police sources said that the accused had been arrested by Islamabad police in fact and handed over to the CIA Lahore police for interrogation. During preliminary investigations, police said, the accused have confessed to investigators that they had looted Rs 4.6 million from Meezan bank situated in Factory Area police limits, Rs 3.6 million from UBL Iqbal Town, Rs 562,877 from Bank Al-Habib Nisbat Road Gowalmandi and Rs 2.5 million Al-Meezan bank in Chuhng police area respectively in 2011. Police said that raids are underway to nab the other accomplices of the accused who are still at large. The police have failed to recover even a single penny from the robbers so far. Police also did not mention in press-note, whether the arrested accused were typical criminals or they had links to some militant outfits.
According to police sources, the militants belonging to a banned outfit struck no less than 14 branches of various banks situated in different parts of the City since April 2011 and made off with millions of rupees.
