LAHORE – Besides denying treatment to the suffering humanity at the OPDs on ninth consecutive day, young doctors on Tuesday started holding protest demonstrations outside public sector hospitals to press for the demand of revised service structure.
On the call of Young Doctors Association Punjab, the protesting doctors held a demonstration outside Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Carrying placards and banners inscribed with the demand of notification of revised service structure, the protesting doctors raised slogans against the government. Doctors will hold demonstration at Children’s Hospital on Wednesday (today).
Doctors closed down OPDs of public sector hospitals across the province including the City on Tuesday, adding to the woes of visiting patients and their attendants. The patients looking for cheaper medical advice at public sector hospitals were left with no other option except to go to private clinics.
The visiting patients and their relatives cursed doctors for denying treatment, saying they (doctors) were violating medical ethics and bringing a bad name to such a noble profession. They said taking revenge of health department from the suffering humanity was highly condemnable. They urged the government to take stringent action against protesting doctors to avoid blackmailing in future.
YDA Punjab has decided to hold doctors convention in Rawalpindi on June 28 to devise future course of action in the wake of lack of interest on the part of the government to negotiate with protesters.
