Fog causes pile-up at Motorway

LAHORE – Several cars collided with each other owing to dense fog on Lahore-Islamabad Motorway, leaving 11 people injured near Thokar Niaz Baig on Tuesday. According to details, three different incidents of cars collision were reported on Motorway after which the road was closed for traffic activities till the fog disappeared. National Highway and Motorways Police said that around three kilometers distance from Thokar Niaz Baig on Motorway, 10 cars collided in to each other due to reduced visibility on the Motorway. They said Lahore-Islamabad Motorway would remain close in the foggy hours to avoid any such incident.
Meanwhile, in connection with ongoing traffic awareness campaign, more than 1800 reflectors were displayed on the backsides of bicycles in order to make them safe from road mishaps in the City on Tuesday.
The City’s Traffic Police Chief SSP Ahmed Mobin said that traffic wardens have been strictly directed to ensure smooth flow of traffic on 20 model roads declared by the City District Government. “Any kind of violation regarding signals, lane line, stop line, wrong parking, mobile usage while driving and other traffic violations would never be tolerated,” he stated. He said that around 450,00 traffic stickers, pamphlets, and booklets have been distributed among the citizens, commuters and especially the motorists on second day of the campaign.
According to him, the citizens are being requested to cooperate with the traffic police in order to make their lives safe from road mishaps.
