LAHORE - Parts of the country received scattered rains on Sunday, making weather pleasant by causing considerable decrease in the mercury level.
Experts have predicted more rains during the next 2-3 days. It means wet conditions are likely to persist in parts of the country including Lahore during Eid holidays.
Rains, cloudiness and winds caused decrease in temperature during the day and at nighttime, providing much needed respite to the people from the prevailing harsh weather conditions.
Rain-thundershower occurred at scattered places in Islamabad, Northeast Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions) and at isolated in upper Khyber PK (Kohat, Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara divisions).
In Lahore, strong winds started blowing at noon that followed by rainfall of varying intensities in the afternoon. Rains added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians as rainwater inundated roads not only in low lying areas but also in several posh localities. Inundated rainwater and slippery conditions caused massive traffic jams on a number of important roads.
Rains made the weather pleasant by causing decrease in the mercury level. People come out of their houses after Iftar to enjoy pleasant change in weather. Major parks and picnic spots attracted a large number of people including women and children. Much to the relief of shoppers, rains considerably decreased the intensity of muggy weather. Maximum and minimum temperature was recorded 36 degree Celsius and 27 C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 69 per cent.
According to the experts, a well marked seasonal low lies over north Baluchistan and its adjoining areas. Moderate monsoon currents are continuously penetrating into upper parts of the country.
The meteorological department has forecast scattered rain-thundershower for Kashmir, Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions), Hazara division and at isolated places in Malakand, Kohat, Peshawar, Multan and Bahawalpur divisions.
On Sunday, Rawalpindi received 65 mm rain, Islamabad 54 mm, Sialkot 30 mm, Lahore 18 mm, Mandi Bahauddin 06 mm, Lower Dir and Parachinar 04 mm each, Murree and Mangla 03 mm each, Chirat and Chakwal 01 mm each.
