LAHORE - Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Ghulam Mustafa on Thursday awarded death sentence to Sawan Masih in a blasphemy case.
The additional district and sessions judge announced the verdict after hearing the arguments of both the parities during a jail trial. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 on Sawan Masih. In case of failure to pay the fine, the convict will also undergo six-month RI.
The counsel for the convict said the verdict of the court was biased as religious sentiments of the judge forced him to announce such a verdict. He said he would challenge the decision in the appellate court. On March 7, 2013, about 200 houses of Christians in JOsephb Colony were set ablaze by hundreds of protesters over an act of blasphemy which, according to them, was committed by Sawan Masih.
