LAHORE - An exhibition titled ‘Tehrik-e-Pakistan’ having rare pictures of the Pakistan Movement kicked off at the National College of Arts (NCA) on Thursday.
Organised by NCA Archive Department at college’s Zahoorul Akhlaq Art Gallery, the exhibition was inaugurated by NCA Principal Dr Murtaza Jafri wherein more than 150 rare pictures of Pakistan Movement were displayed.
The pictures depict the history spanning on a decade as the first phase of the photos show the public meetings of the All India Muslim League and people gatherings. This portions is also having the pictures of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah while addressing the party meetings, public gatherings and meetings with various dignitaries. The exhibition also displays the pictures of the agitations of the people against the British government.
The exhibition, which could be said as pictorial history of Pakistan Movement, also showcased a number of pictures of Qauid-e-Azam while he was meeting with various delegations of foreigners, party leaders and government functionaries later on.
A portion of the exhibition displayed the picture of the migrating groups of the people with their belongings. The largest ever migration of humans was having difficulties and the pictures exhibited on the occasion are telling the stories and miseries of the migration. One can imagine the happenings of the migrations while seeing the pictures of the dead bodies without shrouds and funeral prayers, captured by the photographers. Refugee Camps’ pictures are also here to tell the stories of human miseries wherein ill children and hungry crowds of the refugees could be seen. A series of the pictures displays the group photos of Qauid-e-Azam, Fatma Jinnah and others are also included in the exhibition.
A portion displays the photos of first Independence Day celebrations where the weapons which were given to Pakistan at the time of partition were showcased.
NCA Principal Dr Murtaza Jafri said that the exhibition was organised in connection with the Independence Day to tell the young generations about the sacrifices of our forefathers rendered for this homeland. He said it was the responsibility of the youth to safeguard this homeland and work hard to make it according to the vision of Qauid-e-Azam.
On the occasion, a good number of NCA students, faculty members and general people visited the exhibition which would continue till September 02.
