LAHORE - Following registration of FIR of Model Town incident, PPP’s Central Punjab President Mian Manzoor Wattoo has demanded resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
“It is on the incumbent chief minister to honour his commitment and resign because he is the chief executive of the province,” senior PPP leader Manzoor Wattoo said addressing a news conference on Thursday.
He said since the court had ordered registration of cases in the Model Town incident, there was no justification for the chief minister to remain in office.
On the other hand, PPP’s Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari thinks that no resignation would help provide justice to the victims.
“Don’t see how the resignation will provide justice,” Bilawal tweeted on his twitter account. He, however, said that persons involved in rigging elections and the Model Town tragedy should be brought to justice through court.
Manzoor Wattoo further observed that if the chief minister had ordered registration of the FIR of the incident soon after the abhorrent incident, the situation would have been entirely under control with no negative reflection on the government and the political system.
Wattoo said the Model Town incident aggravated the already volatile situation in which more than14 PAT workers were killed and about ninety suffered bullet shots.
He added that delay in registration of FIR on one pretext or another left no other option for the PAT chief but to agitate for seeking justice.
