Gang involved in shop robberies taken down

LAHORE: Police on Tuesday claimed to have smashed a seven member gang involved in armed robberies at various departmental stores and bakery shops in the provincial metropolis.
During preliminary investigations, the bandits confessed to more than two dozen armed robberies in different parts of Lahore. A police spokesman said that Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed while taking serious notice directed Lahore DIG (Operations) to step up crackdowns. On the directions of DIG Rana Abdul Jabbar, SP Sadar (division) Malik Awais constituted a special police team headed by SHO Sabzazar police station Liaqat Ali which collected particulars of the gangsters involved in the armed robberies. Plainclothesmen were deployed on identified points in Sabzazar to hunt down the criminals. Later, the police raided in different areas and arrested seven members of a gang involved in robberies at shops and stores. The police recovered a Toyota-Corolla car, mobile phones, and looted valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from their possession. The criminals were identified as Raja Adeel, Ishtiaq, Amir Shabbir, Joval Jorge, Omar, Ashiq Ali, and Tahir. The alleged criminals are handed over to the investigation police for further interrogation.
Lahore DIG (Operations) has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team.–Staff Reporter
