LAHORE - Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a man who sexually assaulted a three-year-old baby girl in Green Town a couple of days ago.
Addressing a press conference at Kotwali investigation center, CIA SP Muhammad Omar Virk told reporters that the police took some persons in custody on suspicion from the same locality following the horrific crime incident.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, identified as Tanvir, confessed to the police that he had raped the baby girl. The alleged criminal claimed that he was not in his senses when he committed the crime.
The baby girl was found after being raped in an empty plot in Green Town on Saturday. She is recovering gradually at a hospital in Lahore. The baby was sleeping with her mother on a charpoy outside their house in Maryam Colony, when she was abducted.
Investigators said that the baby girl was recovered unconscious from an empty plot at least one and a half hour after she was kidnapped. According to hospital sources, the girl was repeatedly raped. Police had registered a case against an unidentified rapist on the complaint of father of the girl and launched the investigations. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Zulfiqar Hameed had taken serious notice of the incident and directed the CIA police to investigate the heinous crime and unearth the rapist.
The SP also said that the Kotwali police had also smashed a gang of robbers by arresting 10 of its members, involved in several incidents of armed robberies.
Police recovered looted cash and gold ornaments worth three million rupees from their possession.
During the interrogation, the bandits confessed to the investigators that they had committed at least 27 robberies in a single day when the Lahorites were celebrating Pakistan’s cricket win against India.
The arrested bandits of Mani-dacoit-gang were identified as Imran alias Mani, Hammad, Usman alias Shooter, Ali Raza, Adnan, Subhan Butt, Jameel, Jibran, Shamshad and Shahbaz. Further investigations are underway.
