Rs2 billion incentives approved for growers

OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Punjab Agriculture Department has launched the project Supply Chain Improvement of Selected Agriculture and Livestock Products. The first road show presided by Secretary Agriculture Punjab Arif Nadeem was held on Friday which was attended by Agriculture and Livestock farmers, processors, representatives of logistic companies, traders and pack houses. Secretary Agriculture said that an incentive package of Rs 2 billion has been approved by Chief Minister Punjab for growers, suppliers, logistic companies and traders / exporters as financial assistance for acquiring Global GAP and International Featured Standards (IFS) certifications to produce fully traceable products. He told that IFS-Food Certification of 170 pack houses/processing units and 15 value addition units, Global GAP certification of 30 on-farm suppliers and 3000 farm-bases attached with suppliers, IFS-Logistic certification of 8 Logistic companies whereas IFS-broker certification of 7 traders would be completed during the project period for which Government would provide 70 per cent financial assistance. He said that there was great potential to enhance crop yields by 2 to 3 times and to reduce post harvest losses by 30 per cent adopting new technologies. He expected that by participating in Supply Chain Management and Star Farm Network, exports would reach to 4 billion US Dollars. According to spokesman of Agriculture Department Punjab stakeholders who want to participate in this program should submit their applications till November 21 for which application forms and other relevant information was available on official website.
