LAHORE - A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court, seeking insertion of Anti-Terrorism Act’s sections in the FIR registered against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former law minister Rana Sanaullah, former principal secretary to CM Dr Tauqeer Shah and others allegedly involved in the Model Town incident.
Advocate Ishtiaq Samuel of Pakistan Awami Tehreek filed the petition, submitting that Faisal Town police had registered an FIR and inserted sections in it of their own choice. He said the FIR was not registered as the aggrieved party wanted to get it registered.
The petitioner feared the accused, due to the sections inserted in the FIR, could easily be released in the case. He prayed to the court to direct the police to cancel the FIR registered earlier and lodge a new FIR with sections of Anti-Terrorism Act in the case.
On August 28, Faisal Town police lodged an FIR against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former law minister Rana Sanaullah, Dr Tauqeer Shah, Hamza Shahbaz, ministers and police officials allegedly involved in killing at least 15 people and leaving 85 others injured during a clash between PAT workers and police in Model Town on June 17.
