Thick fog paralyses life in City

LAHORE - The plains of Punjab including the City remained in the grip of severe cold and foggy weather on Monday, hampering normal routine life as less visibility caused slowing down of vehicular movement besides closure of a number of intercity roads. The foggy weather also disturbed normal schedule of flights and trains. The experts have predicted the cold wave and foggy weather to persist during the next 2-3 days. Thick fog blanket engulfed the plains that hampered traffic throughout the province and caused a number of mishaps. In certain parts of the province, the fog started setting in before the lifting of existing mass, considerably reducing sunshine period and even resulting in no sunshine at some places. The incessant fog considerably reduced visibility and decreased daytime temperature, multiplying the miseries of the residents and commuters. In Lahore, the dense fog disturbed normal routine life. The less visibility caused accidents in different parts of the City besides hampering normal vehicular movement. On Monday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 15.2 degree Celsius and 6.8 C respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 93 per cent, which decreased to 77 per cent in the evening. According to the experts, a weak trough of westerly wave is moving across northern areas of the country. Local meteorological department has forecast cold, dry and foggy weather for the City during the next 24 hours. Met office has forecast isolated rain in northern areas. According to the Met office, fog is likely to continue over the plains, especially Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur divisions and Sargodha, Jhelum and Muzaffargarh districts.
