LAHORE - At a meeting held at Jati Umra on Sunday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif decided to initiate contact with political forces to save democracy.
The two leaders also reportedly discussed Dr Qadri’s APC, PTI’s long march threat and issues relating to provision of relief to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The option of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s meeting with PPP’s defacto Chairman Asif Ali Zardari also came under discussion as a first step to initiate dialogue with the political parties. The meeting with the PPP chief may take place during Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Sindh next week.
They reportedly welcomed the decision by the PPP and ANP for not attending APC convened by PAT.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif viewed that those indulging in anti-democratic activities were following an agenda to deny Pakistan of development and prosperity but the government would not allow them to succeed. 
Nawaz said that the nation needed unity in the wake of ongoing military operation against terrorists but certain elements were involved in politics of violence for political gains.
Sources said that the Prime Minister, who arrived here on Sunday, discussed in detail the consequences of the Model town incident and the issues being agitated by the Opposition political parties to destabilise the government.
The two high-ups expressed confidence and vowed to implement a report prepared by a judicial commission formed to probe into the Model Town incident which left near a dozen people dead and over 100 injured in Lahore two weeks ago.
MASHHOOD ASKS QADRI TO WAIT FOR PROBE OUTCOME
Punjab Law Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that PAT chief Tahirul Qadri should wait for the inquiry report instead of exploiting the Model Town Tragedy.
He said this while addressing a news conference at 90-Shahra-e-Quaid-e-Azam on here Sunday. Provincial Minister for Finance Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman was also present on the occasion.
The law minister said that instead of exploiting the Model Town tragedy, Maulana Tahirul Qadri should wait for the judicial commission inquiry and joint investigation team reports. He said the politicians delivering provocative speeches had supported former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in the referendum. He said these elements did not believe in the country’s constitution.
Rana Mashhood said the rejected politicians wanted derailment of the entire system and are waiting for ‘some signal’. He said that Tahirul Qadri, who is demanding resignation of the Punjab chief minister, will also ask someday the prime minister to step down. “Had these elements asked Pervez Musharraf to quit after the tragic incident of Lal Masjid, he said.
Rana Mashhood said that Pak Army is waging war against terrorism, while the elected government is making efforts for the country’s progress and development. He said the so-called leaders wanted to put an end to democratic process in the country. He further said as there was no allegation of corruption on mega development projects undertaken by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, these elements were enacting a drama on the Model Town incident. He said these so-called leaders wanted to divert the attention of law enforcement agencies. He said that efforts to undermine the government institutions tantamount to compromising national security.
Rana Mashhood asked media to show the speech of Tahirul Qadri he had delivered on the night between June 16 and June 17 in which he was trying to instigate his workers.
To a question, the minister said the only thing common between Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan is that both of them have changed their stance 14 times during last six days. Similarly, he said that NAB and other institutions were investigating into irregularities committed by Chaudhry Brothers during their rule.
