LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said corruption and malpractices in the name of development projects were rampant under the former government, but the present leadership has introduced a new culture and every penny of public money is being utilised in a transparent manner. Schemes of loot and plunder have been changed into public-welfare projects. The state-of-the-art slaughter house being established in Lahore at a cost of Rs 70.5 million is reflective of Pak-Iran friendship and will result in availability of high quality hygienic meat to the people as well as its export to the foreign countries, he said, while addressing the foundation-stone laying ceremony of Lahore Meat Processing Complex, being set up with the collaboration between Mashhad Meat Industrial Complex Iran and Lahore Meat Company in Shahpur Kanjaran, here on Monday. Provincial Minister for Livestock Ahmad Ali Aulakh, Commissioner Mashhad Islamic Republic of Iran Hasan Mowhidan, Head of Institute Mashhad Meat Industrial Complex Syed Murtaza Haidri, Members National and Provincial Assemblies, Secretary Livestock, Commissioner and Chairman Board of Directors Lahore Meat Company and a large number of livestock farmers were present on the occasion. The CM said the LMPC being established with the collaboration of Punjab and Khorasan Razavi province of Iran would be completed in the next five to six months and after the completion of the pilot project the trend of establishing similar slaughter houses in other cities would be promoted. He said though quality work was being undertaken in private sector with regard to meat processing, but this project would be the most modern resulting in availability of high quality meat to the masses at affordable rate. Similar projects will be initiated in future with the collaboration of Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and other countries, he added. While pointing out that land in Shahpur Kanjaran was acquired 12 years ago during his tenure, but it was left barren and desolate and now foundation-stone of the Complex was being laid, and the project should silence the detractors of the government, who level allegations against the govt that it was working on their projects. He said he did not want to further expose the dark deeds of the former rulers on the occasion of the foundation stone laying ceremony of this important project. The CM mentioned despite all factors being positive, Pakistans share in $ 2,000 billion meat industry was almost negligible. The Livestock and Dairy Development Board and Lahore Meat Company have been established for this purpose.
