LAHORE - Resenting defiance to the order of paying double pension to 75-year-old government pensioners, Punjab Ombudsman Javed Mahmood has decided to issue final notice to the finance secretary.
The ombudsman passed the orders for double pension to 75-year-old pensioners on April 24. He also ordered the finance department to issue directives to the Punjab accountant general to revise pension and place entries in the Pension Payment Order (PPO) of such pensioners.
Later, the finance department filed a review petition, citing reasons for not implementing the orders. However, the petition was rejected on July 13 with the directives to implement the original orders within three weeks but to no avail. Pensioners re-approached the ombudsman to have his order followed, leading to the issuance of the final notice.
The ombudsman, in his order, emphasised that it was established law that the judgments of the Supreme Court, High Court and Services Tribunals were to be extended even to the non-litigating parties. He sought a report within a month.
